Five Ixalan pre-releases are set for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 & 24 at Worlds Away. After the 5:30 p.m. Friday Night Magic on Sept. 22, three pre-releases are scheduled for midnight. Prizes will be awarded to the top four in each pod. If you pre-pay by store close on Thursday, Sept. 21 the entry is $28 — two dollars less — and you’ll receive a free pack of deck protectors and be able to purchase Magic singles at 30% off during the tourney. The fourth tournament goes at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23; entry is $30. There will be door and feature match prizes each round, and Ixalan packs will be awarded to those that finish in the top eight or 16, depending on attendance. 2017 Worlds Away Magic Championship Update

Here are the standings in the year-long journey that will crown the 2017 Worlds Away Magic Champion. Players earn points (three or one) from each match at all sanctioned tournaments from December, 2016 until the end of November, 2017. The top 32 players qualify for a free standard tournament on Saturday, Dec. 2. After five rounds the top eight will enter into a free draft from which your champion will emerge. Everyone in the top eight will receive a special item, and the winner a killer stained-glass trophy, all designed by my friend Cheryl Garrett-Jenkins. Feature match and door prizes will also be awarded during the five-rounder.

Free ‘Thank You Magic Tournament’ Nov. 21

Hello players! As a thank you to the London Magic community, Worlds Away will be hosting a free standard tournament on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. The event will be casual and no deck lists are required. The store has been running sanctioned events since 1997, selling Magic since ’94 and I’ve been playing since ’93; the game has provided me with many memories and friendships. The prize pool, which is valued at more than $700, will include real estate (Inkmoth Nexus, Twilight Mire, Creeping Tar Pit, Misty Rainforest, Marsh Flats, Verdant Catacombs, many shock lands) and a host of other cool cards.
