Five Ravnica Allegiance pre-releases are set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19 and 20, at Worlds Away. After the 5:30 p.m. Friday Night Magic on the 18th, three pre-releases are scheduled for midnight. Entry is $32 and Allegiance packs will be awarded to the top four in each eight-person pod. If you pre-pay by store close on Thursday, Jan. 17, you’ll receive a free pack of deck protectors. The fourth goes at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19. There will be door and feature match prizes each round, and Allegiance packs will be awarded to those that finish in the top eight or 16, depending on attendance. Fourteenth PPTQ Sunday, June 10

Twenty-eight players began the PPTQ with regional desires in their eyes. In the quarters, Spencer Cartier defeated Brad Burden, Hayden Jeanson got past Adam Hobbs, Jarod Arthur topped Jimmy Bradley, and Reece Landeryou beat Austen Renault. In the semis, Hayden went the distance with Spencer, and Reece defeated Jarod. And in the final, Hayden emerged as the champion. Congratulations!

Tomo Pjanic wins Worlds Away Magic Title!

On Saturday, Dec. 2, Worlds Away crowned its 2017 Magic the Gathering Champion…Tomo Pjanic! The top 32 players from the year-long quest qualified for the free standard tournament on Saturday, Dec. 2. After five rounds there was a cut to top eight, and the lucky few proceeded to a free Hour of Devastation/Amonkhet draft. Everyone in the top eight received a beautiful mana sun-catcher, and the winner a killer stained-glass trophy, all designed by my friend Cheryl Garrett-Jenkins. In the top eight, Juha Erme faced Adam Hobbs, Anthony Bechard battled James Van Klink, Tomo Pjanic met three-time defending champion Matt Pinsky, and Sean Blute faced Kevin Park. When the dust cleared, it was Adam and Sean and James and Tomo meeting in the semis. In the final, Tomo topped Sean in two to take home the hardware.

I must give a massive shout out to Clinton Prince for donating a box of Ixalan from his winnings at the Forest City Magic Community Cup charity event. Packs were given out as door prizes, feature matches and to those in the top eight. Bravo!
